The first step in forming any team is the thoughtful selection of its team members. The members are what create the synergy of actions and larger results that teams were constructed to achieve. Whether military units (strong, loyal, trained to operate as a unit), sports teams (to work as coordinated team members, to understand strategies and to be responsible for tactics) and business teams (selected to do most of the above with creativity, focus and dedication).
When looking for team members, look at the purpose first; increase sales, manage large customers, technical support teams, etc. This focus on purpose helps you select members who will fit best to what needs to be accomplished.
Select those who have demonstrated the attributes (loyalty, etc), you need to achieve the team's purpose. Choose those whose attitudes have demonstrated collaboration and the skill to listen to others. Select those who want to be part of the team's purpose, those who demonstrate a commitment to excellence.
Teams succeed only as a result of the team members collaborating for a purpose!
